Trephina Gorge, approximately 85 km east of Alice Springs, in the Macdonnell Ranges, is a place of sacred significance that glows richly in the morning light. Painted en plein air, this painting depicts the gorge dry, despite the recent rain - the sandy riverbed having quickly absorbed the water beneath its surface. The deep blue-purple shadows contrast with the rich orange hues of the rockface in sunlight.
