This was the first plein air oil painting I made during an artist retreat to the Warrumbungle Dark Sky Park in October 2022. It was a wonderful time of immersing myself in the landscape. I walked, painted and cooked on an open fire. I made this artwork only moments before dusk. Like many plein air artworks, the marks are immediate and fresh and I had to work quickly to capture the range, sky and foreground as the colours and light changed.
