This work forms part of an ongoing investigation into painting in dialogue with musical structure. Referencing Rustle of Spring by Christian Sinding, the painting engages with rapid articulation, directional flow and the accumulation of movement across the surface.

The composition is organised around a lateral sweep, where cloud formations traverse the sky in a continuous directional field. This movement is countered by a darkened treeline, which anchors the image while introducing resistance to the motion above.

Leaning trees and elongated marks reinforce a sense of sustained airflow, allowing the painting to operate through rhythm and repetition rather than fixed form. The horizon remains stable, but the space above it is actively reconfigured through shifting passages of colour and gesture.

Executed alla prima, the work retains immediacy and responsiveness. Wet-on-wet handling enables marks to remain fluid and interconnected, with forms emerging through the accumulation of directional strokes.

Rather than describing a specific scene, the painting translates underlying conditions—movement, airflow and rhythmic variation—into a visual language shaped by gesture, spacing and material process.

Medium: Oil paint on plywood panel, framed in Italian timber
Subject: Sweeping cloud formations over a treeline in motion
Colour palette: Cadmium yellow, white, ultramarine, Windsor blue, indigo, green
