Exhibition of Sacred Landscapes - From the Desert to the Mountains
The paintings that are in my latest exhibition, at Springwood’s Braemar Gallery, are landscapes of the heart. They depict intimate moments in nature, timeless mountains and transient skies.
Many of the artworks exhibited are plein air paintings created in the bright light and chilly breezes of deep gorges, during my retreat in the MacDonnell Ranges, in Central Australia. Others are studio oils evoking vast skies of the Blue Mountains.
The centrepiece of the show is a large, gestural desert landscape painting of a mountain range. This work seems to encapsulate the different techniques, sensibility and vibration of both the plein air and studio paintings. Painted rapidly, with broad, immediate brushstrokes, it evokes a visceral response to the sacred mountains of the MacDonnell Ranges.
The exhibition’s opening drinks are this Saturday, 14 June, between 2 and 4 pm. I’m delighted to invite you to attend this event and to join me afterwards at the Springwood Ori for drinks.
In addition, I will do a casual walk-through on Sunday, 15 June at 1.30 pm, where I will discuss my work and processes and answer any questions you may have. You may, however, prefer to attend the Artist Talk and Painting Demo I am doing on Sunday, 29 June at 1 pm at the gallery. Please RSVP for this here.
