WORKSHOP SAFETY AGREEMENT
You will be doing many activities during this workshop that will require the use of tools, equipment and chemicals. Safety is the number one priority for everyone. To ensure a safe workshop, these rules must be adhered to at all times. Please sign below to agree to the following:
Enclose, dispose of and store chemicals in a safe place
Never mix or pour chemicals in sinks. Sinks are to be used only for water-based materials. Chemical solvents used by the participant are to be taken home. Check the label of all waste containers twice before adding chemical waste to the container. Handle flammable hazardous chemicals over a pan to contain spills. Never dispense flammable liquids anywhere near an open flame or source of heat. If a chemical should splash in your eye(s) or your skin, immediately flush with running water for at least 20 minutes. Notify the teacher immediately.
Use safe handling procedures for chemicals and tools
Limit exposure to chemicals by using protective clothing and equipment and ensuring adequate ventilation
Wear protective clothing and footwear
Take care when setting up easels and other equipment and furniture (the parts to hold up the art sometimes drop suddenly and can crush fingers)
Take care to secure loose clothing or scarves
Take time to stretch and take a break from your workstation
Participants affected by drugs or alcohol are not permitted in the workshop
Participants with any health problems that may affect workplace safety (e.g. medication, epileptic fits) must report these conditions to the workshop staff
Immediately notify the workshop supervisor of any faulty or broken equipment
Keep leads up off the floor
Keep your work area tidy
Clean up any spills immediately
Wash hands after using equipment and materials
Return all equipment clean and in working order to the proper storage area.
When using sharp instruments, always carry tips and points pointing down and away. Always cut away from the body. Never try to catch falling sharp instruments. Grasp sharp instruments only by the handle.
Report an accident (spill, breakage, etc) or injury (cut, burn, etc) to the teacher immediately, no matter how trivial it may appear. If you and/or your classmate are hurt, immediately get the teacher’s attention.
