Terms and Conditions of Artist Residency
Capertee Mountain View Artist Retreat – Artist Residency
This residency offers time, space, and quiet — an opportunity to step away from the everyday and into a more attentive way of working.
Set within the vast landscape of the Capertee Valley, it is a place for independent practice, reflection, and gentle connection with others and the land.
By accepting a place and confirming your booking, you’re agreeing to the following shared understandings.
The Residency
The residency is a self-directed experience within a shared creative environment.
It is grounded in respect — for the work, for one another, and for the landscape that holds us.
Fees and Payments
Residency fees are outlined in your acceptance email or invoice and are due as specified.
At the beginning of your stay, a $50 key deposit and a $300 bond are required. These will be returned within 7 days of departure, provided your space and the shared areas are left clean, undamaged, and as they were found.
Sliding Scale
This residency operates on a sliding scale to support access for artists across a range of circumstances.
You are invited to select your fee level honestly and in good faith. This system relies on trust and helps keep the residency open to a wider community.
Changes and Cancellations
Places in the residency are limited and held with care.
If your plans change, the following applies:
Cancellations made more than two calendar months before your residency will receive a full refund, less a $50 administration fee.
Between two months and five weeks prior, 50% of the residency fee is refundable.
Within five weeks of the residency, refunds are not available. Where possible, an alternative date may be offered.
If the residency needs to be cancelled due to circumstances beyond control, all payments will be refunded in full.
Living Here
This is a shared, working environment.
Residents are asked to:
Bring their own food and linen (including sheets and towels)
Care for their accommodation and shared spaces, leaving them as they were found
Use shared kitchens, bathrooms, and studios thoughtfully, cleaning up after use
Be mindful of water and the septic system, both of which are limited resources
Help maintain the quiet, reflective atmosphere of the retreat
Follow all fire restrictions and property guidelines
Shared Rhythm
The residency includes a light, informal rhythm of participation.
You may be asked to contribute to simple tasks — watering plants, collecting kindling, or helping care for shared spaces.
These small acts are part of the fabric of the residency, supporting a sense of connection and shared responsibility.
Conduct and Care
This is a place of mutual respect.
Residents are asked to move through the space with care — for others, for themselves, and for the environment.
Smoking is not permitted inside buildings.
Open fires are only allowed in designated areas and when conditions permit.
Pets must be approved in advance and supervised at all times.
You are responsible for your own safety and belongings during your stay.
Responsibility
While every effort is made to create a safe and supportive environment, your time here is undertaken at your own discretion.
Capertee Mountain View Artist Retreat is not responsible for loss, injury, or damage during your stay.
You are encouraged to hold appropriate insurance for your work, travel, and wellbeing.
Agreement
By accepting your place and attending the residency, you acknowledge these shared understandings and agree to take part in the residency with care, respect, and consideration.
