New Exhibition: Falling Upwards at Stella Downer Fine Art

Near and Far, 2026, oil on board, 15 × 30 cm

I am writing to invite you to join me to celebrate the opening of my new exhibition, Falling Upwards.

This show is one of contrasts. The work is either slow, deliberate and considered, or spontaneous and bold. The marks are fine and precise, or broad and gestural. The paint is carefully layered or applied with a loaded brush or palette knife. The images are expansive or intimate and detailed; the scale is large or tiny.

All these conscious creative choices have gently pushed and pulled, stretching me to explore different thresholds - awareness, abandonment, trust in the process and persistence.

I am excited and curious now to see how the paintings hang together in the gallery. What will they say once out in the world with their individual and corporate voices?

I’d love you to discover this with me! Come along to the opening drinks on Saturday, 7 March at Stella Downer Fine Art. These are always lovely, relaxed afternoons of conversation, art and connection, usually finishing up in one of the local pubs for some dinner.

Also, if you have been wanting to come on a painting retreat with me, but held back… you’re in luck! I have a few last-minute places in the Intermediate–Advanced level Capertee Valley Retreat at the end of March. Check out the details on the workshops page of the site.
