Bold Orange Creativity
A few days ago, I met a woman wearing beautiful, bold orange pants. I complimented her on them, and she seemed somewhat embarrassed, replying that she usually only wore them on holidays.
That made me wonder what I reserve for holidays and how life could be different.
Holidays are times for fun, rest and adventure. We follow pleasures or our passions by climbing mountains, lying on beaches, visiting galleries or simply picking up a book. We play and explore, without the usual time constraints and rules.
On work days, we tend to feel the need to knuckle down and conform. We correct and admonish ourselves to be diligent, work and dress appropriately, and stay on the straight and narrow.
Conversely, my workday requires more of a holiday approach. Creative processes are divergent and non-linear. They call for curiosity, relaxation and a holiday-like energy. The results evolve and emerge from persistent, playful, attentive exploration. Rather than complying with a set of limiting expectations, each time I pick up my brushes, I need to (metaphorically) don bright orange pants.
What about you? Do you also want to travel down your creative path to discover your unique artist’s way?
