Ritual Fire Dance II, after de Falla, 2024, oil on board, 22 x 30 cm
Ritual Fire Dance II, after de Falla, 2024, oil on board, 22 x 30 cm
This painting depicts a moonlit night on a beach, where I imagine the ritual dance in Manuel de Falla’s Ritual Fire Dance, could have occurred. The large bonfire glows brightly on the sand, lighting the foreground and the moon shines through the clouds above. The music this painting accompanies is a movement of the ballet El amor brujo (The Bewitched Love, 1915) in which a young gypsy woman is freed from the ghost of her deceased husband by performing a ritual dance around the fire.
The work is beautifully framed and ready to hang.
