Would you like to be both an adventurer and a sleuth? To paint with colour one needs to be prepared to go where one has never been before, take risks and try new things. At the same time, we must stay alert, pay attention and make sense of what we notice. Painting with colour invites us to approach the world as we did in childhood, with eyes wide open, prepared to be amazed.
As we slow down and embrace our curiosity we can take the first step. We can learn to truly see, to notice the yellow bouncing through reflections and the indigo lurking in shadows. Then we see the violet in clouds and the magenta running along the veins of a leaf.
Once we have learned to detect colours, to see their variety and subtle distinctions, we are ready to paint with a nuanced palette and we need to take the second step. We need to acquire practical know-how on mixing and arranging colours. We need to understand warm and cool, intensity, hue and value, contrast, relationships and dynamics. We need to know how to change the verdant green of an oak leaf, to the muted of a gum. We need to know how to lighten red without losing intensity or how to create a warm blue to vibrate next to a cool one.
If this sounds like your cup of tea, then I invite you to join me for a full-day colour workshop on 7th August in my studio in Blaxland. Together with other creatives and colour explorers, we’ll embark on this adventure, replete with great food and drinks and all the needed art equipment.
Please don’t delay in booking as places are limited for this wonderful day of colour immersion. But be warned, you will never see the world in the same way again.
Kind regards,
Corinne
